Premier League: Full implications of Man United Bias

Really?

The decisions given against Chelsea in this weekend’s game may be viewed by many people as a mere co-incidence and that it was honest mistakes on the part of the officials. Moreover, conversations will centre on, “accepting the referee’s decisions in the true spirit of sportsmanship”. This appears to be what being English is all about but it has played into the hands of blatant cheats and those who favour Manchester United sub-consciously.

If anyone has read some of my previous articles, then it puts what happened on Sunday at Stamford Bridge into clear perspective. The question that needs to be asked is why the controversy revolves around questionable decision that go in Manchester United’s favour Manchester United are never the victims of poor decisions. The decision will continue to pour in Manchester United’s favour so long as spineless governing bodies are not prepared to address the root of the problem.

To spell it out again, Manchester United is the Premier League’s number one product to maximise world-wide revenue in the form of television and other commercial rights therefore the success of the Premiership brand hinges on their number one product, with the largest following in the world, being successful. If Manchester United fails, then the international appeal of the Premier League will be lost. As a result of billions of pounds being at stake, the administrators are prepared to live with this evil. The cliché that it is all about money rings true.

If any team wishes to compete with Manchester United on an equal footing, they can forget doing so because a minimum allowance of ten points has to be built into the equation to offset so called poor refereeing making a generous contribution to the United cause.

On Sunday, it certainly was not the “invisible man” who scored Manchester United’s third goal from an off-side position. Even with ten against eleven, the only likely winner appeared to be Chelsea as was evident by their domination, but the referee ensured that there would be no Chelsea victory. Many respected journalists described this as the worst display by a referee in Premier League history. If the official was unsure of the decision then he should have ruled accordingly.

United have had great teams in the past that have won titles on merit but they have not always had great teams yet with the interventions of officials, they have chalked up nineteen league titles. They are well below Chelsea and Manchester City at present but they have been kept in the frame by the goodwill of the officials. How long will other clubs accept this situation? Recently Roberto Martinez stated how hypocritical the officials are when it came to Manchester United. He was duly fined for telling the truth. That is the manner in which the league ensures that the voices of protest are stifled.

Another clear tactic employed by the officials is to give poor decisions against teams that pose a threat to Manchester United in those team’s own fixtures. Examples of this have been evident this year as seen through Crouch handling the ball for a goal for Stoke against Manchester City and Chelsea being denied two clear penalties in a drawn game. I have not even highlighted the fact that Manchester United score goals from corners that should have been goal kicks and other such decisions. Many people think that it is because of United’s superb defending at Old Trafford that penalties have not been awarded to visiting teams for so many years.

The perception is that the Premier League is a league of integrity and long may that be, but the reality is that unless these so called co-incidences are addressed people will start to ask more questions than there are answers given. United will continue to accrue undeserved points unless something is done to address this scourge. They are up against my beloved Arsenal this weekend at Old Trafford so I am hoping that we get treated fairly.

I think, considering that the spotlight is firmly on the officials and if they have two bad weeks in a row in favour of Man United, then that would be too much of a co-incidence we should receive unbiased decisions which would make a refreshing change.

  1. Greg says:

I think Chelsea deserved it completely as their rode all the luck that was ever possible last season by winning the Champions League and depriving Spurs of their deserved Champions League place. No sympathy whatsoever for Chelsea.

  2. Ian says:

This is untrue as Manu did not get the twenty minutes of added time in the spurs games so not all refs are bias just that one.

  3. Clive says:

Torres was brushed with a feather and decided to fall over. The contact was not enough to bring him down. Is he not a grown man? As such the referee was right to book him for simulation.

Yes the assistant referee made a mistake for the winner, but then David Luiz was going around kicking people so he could easily have been sent off as well.

    • Karim says:

The article was from an arsenal fan no wonder..long drought anyway u ve just been saved the ref to extra so yap wisely twats

  4. Geoff says:

You ignore completely the games against Chelsea refereed by Martin Atkinson where Chelsea got all the decisions.
Complete load of nonsense from you – you can’t really believe it – you are just another sad bastard who can’t take defeat. Pathetic!!!

  5. Jay says:

How about shedding more light on arsenal’s offside winning goal last Saturday? I think that will be a good start. Unless u are telling us that arsenal is not a threat to United. Man City got the most favourable decisions in the league last season, do ur researches without bias! And just for the records, arsenal will be trounced by united this weekend, YEAH! With or without referee. Eat it

  6. george says:

Mr writer stop confusing people about united, who ever you are supporting allow united to rain because its our time

  7. My Heart Is White says:

The only reason Spurs won this season at OT, was because Ferguson gave Clattenburg the day off from being Ref. Some of the decisions he’s made in past matches to literally hand United the game, are a disgrace to the game. When he seemed to award a free kick after the linesman had flagged, only to instruct Nani to score past a bewildered Gomes, he showed his true colors. If that wasn’t blatant cheating then it could have only been a complete an utter howler and remarkably rubbish Refereeing. So if it was just a case of very poor Refereeing, why does he still get picked to Referee high profile games? This proves that it is corruption, because if it wasn’t and the Premier League is fair, he wouldn’t have been allowed to Referee the Chelsea/Man U game, would he?

  8. Tee boi says:

With ur write up u r also a fucking bias dude, every teams has it own good n bad day, so get dat in 2 ur damn head mr arsenal fan.

  9. Papi says:

U are insane, crazy and delusional….valencia was booked for doing more or less the same as torres…ivanovic deserved it.The only sensible thing was that third goal, but was that e first goal ever scored from an offside position in the history of football?Nada….so shut up,and dnt forget luiz handled e ball inside e sixteen yard box but do u hear anyone complain? Do u want us to bring that ‘goal’ against Spurs so we can prove even chelsea benefit from mistakes? Grow up and stop whining!!!

  10. Temitope says:

It is pathetic that some idiots are still supporting the referee stupid decisions; showing Torres a red card when it was obvious that there was a contact btw him and Evans; allowing an offside position goal. The was the same favouritism Howard Web displayed after Manchester United was 3 goals down against Chelsea fc last season.
Man united should be charge for match fixing and conspiracy.

  11. Jemo says:

What a load of rubbish! Surely these conspiracy theorists should have woken up by now! Manchester United have been successful in the premier league era by; 1. Buying and nurturing better players, 2. Having had the best manager, 3. Playing for most part better football, and 4. Being true to the legacy of the club that Sir Matt and the Busby Babes spawn.

    • My Heart Is White says:

Yeah that’s right mate, can I answer that? Roy Carrol’s save. You know the one where Carrol scooped the ball from out the back of the net. Nani’s goal, after the linesman flags and the ref appears to award a free-kick, but then tells Nani to score (easy thing to do is just blame Gomes). Penalty awarded for M Carrick’s drop in the box. CC final, after tearing Utd. apart in the first half, the ref walked on in the second half with obvious instructions to stop Spurs from playing, by awarding free-kicks to Utd. for no reason every two seconds, which broke-up our play and gave the ball back to Utd. every time Spurs got the ball. The difference between the refs first and second half performances, were so blatant and obvious for all to see, it was like two different refs with two different styles and two different sets of rules. I can go on and on and on, there has been so many disgusting match changing decisions when Spurs play Utd. if there is nothing dodgy going on, can you explain why all these decisions go Utd.’s way? I’d love to know, but unfortunately until now no-one has been able to offer me a reasonable answer. I wonder why?

  12. Andrew desouza says:

who was the ref when Pedro Mendes’ shot from the half-way line dropped 4 feet into Manure’s goal, before being pulled out ? answer effing clattenburg; Likewise for the Gomes debacle. Now the latest with Chelsea. I hate that gutter-snipe clattenburg!!

  13. Usuph says:

The ref Clattenburg whose refreeing career is in jeopardy now didn’t hide his hatred towards chelsea and chelsea players, that was evidenced in his alleged racial slur against Mikel.

    • Trevor says:

Until facts are released there has been no evidence released to the public. The only true evidence is your ignorance to the situation.

  14. JC says:

Spurs fan here: You are deluded – All of the decisions were understandable mistakes. At full speed it looked like a dive from Torres (mostly because he wasn’t actually tripped, he felt the contact and threw himself to the ground). There is no way for the linesman to see if Hernandez is on or not – he has to take a guess. Ivanovic is a clear last man decision, he’s unlucky as it wasn’t deliberate, but those are the rules. Its a perfect storm of unlucky decisions, but I have seen much, much worse.

  15. Trevor says:

Are you off your meds? All your points come on a weekend where Arsenal benefited from the exact same decision that Man U did, an offside goal. Every other decision can be debated to no end. Ivanovic deserved his red IMO. Torres has been booked a number of times for diving in the past and went down pretty easy on the tackle by Evans. If you watch his face from the time of the tackle to the time of the second yellow it’s amazing how the pain of the tackle disappeared and he made a miraculous recovery to walk off the field. Who knew a red card could have such a healing effect. Not to mention Valencia got a yellow card for diving during the same game. You also fail to mention the chest high karate kick by Torres, he was lucky to be on the field in the first place.
The last year Chelsea won the league they won by one point, Martin Atkinson was the official at the bridge that allowed a Didier Drogba goal that was yards off-side. Chelsea won that game and Man U lost the league by one point.
The bigger farce is the fact that uniformed people like yourself take the time write BS and post it on the net, it’s even sadder that you believe your BS. Coming up with conspiracy theories must take the pain away from supporting a poor team like Arsenal, they haven’t won trophy in 7 years and have gone from title contecders to a feeder team.

  16. gaius says:

only the weak will write up an article like this one,i guess the writer only watch man united games, grow up, we all tired of this lines of excusses

  17. JimB says:

I’m no fan of Manchester United but, really……………………what a risibly puerile and ignorant article. I hope that it wasn’t written by an adult?

Seriously, Goolam Rawat, you need to man up and get a life.

There is no conspiracy. There is only fallibility on the part of referees – for the simple reason that referees are human beings. And human beings are fallible.

Torres was unlucky to be sent off for diving. But he was lucky not to have been sent off earlier in the game for a dangerous, reckless, chest high challenge on Cleverly. Whither your preposterous conspiracy theories with reference to that incident? Hmm?

My advice, Goolam…………don’t give up the day job.

  18. lordmicheal says:

Man u won but yet SLEEPLESS. I saw a man u fan on twitter that said he will never celebrate that win cos they didn’t deserve it. Man U should continue with their cheating , one day nemesis will catch up with them

  19. United Are Cunts says:

Iam biased against UTD,their fans are right bad decisions do go against them, but out of every 1against them 10 favor UTD.

  20. sunshine says:

point of correction; united have never won the epl on merit for once. United dont produce players more than westham and arsenal, they only win matches with the help of refs. And u cant say ferg is the best manager in the epl, owing to the fact that he have spent 26 years with the club only 2 european awards. And remember his ist 7 to 8 years with united was trophyless.
    I rest my case

    • Gio says:

I am not a Man Utd fan, or a Fergie fan, but you sound ridiculous. He has ONLY won 2 Champs League medals. Why how many have Wenger or anyone else in the Prem League won??!! And they have never won the Epl on merit, not once!! I suggest you start watching a different sport as football doesn’t agree with you!

    • SB says:

Not sure what you mean by ‘European Awards’ but if you mean trophies, he’s actually won three. A couple of World Championships too.

  21. seb says:

I agree, but as an arsenal fan, you cant say much about bias refs after todays game against reading, not getting a clear second yellow and leveling in the 95th minute of 94, with no reason for the extra minute. its not just man u that get bias decisions, chelsea get their fair share, so do city. at some point every team may appear to have decisions go their way, the bigger teams get it more though.

  22. MF Mohamad says:

Have you taken into account that linesman vision might be block by Petr Cech for him to raise his flag?

To me the goal was off-side. But I can say this because I saw it from different angle. Try see it from linesman field-of-view.

  23. nana says:

i bet u, united cannot stand any big team with eleven, eleven players, they can only win with red cards or penalties, as they did to livpool. They tried this with spurs n u know what happened. I don’t blame them, i fuck the FA. And they will never succeed cuz chelseas game has drawn attention to them.

  24. EngNor says:

Hey Goolam Goona, is that a spider in your trophy cabinet? COYS!

  25. Gio says:

The 3 most succesful teams in the PL Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal have all had help from the officials, which is one of the reasons they have been so succesful. Along with diving, cheating and doing whatever it takes to win, wether its within the rules or not. Take yesterdays game Arsenal v Reading for example. The referee cost Reading the match for allowing extra Fergie time as you may put it. Also Koscielny should have been sent off!!

  26. MAN UNITED is killing English football, they must do something for this issue….

  27. SB says:

Would you care to explain why this refereeing conspiracy allowed Manchester City to win the league on goal difference with an injury time winner on the last day of the season?

Had the referee given two minutes of injury time and blown the whistle at 92 minutes, Manchester United would be champions right now.

Do you honestly believe that the people organising this grand scheme were too stupid to figure that out?

    • My Heart Is White says:

Do you honestly believe that there’s no corruption in the epl? It’s very naive to think that everything is legitimate with our league. Let me tell you, where ever you find money you’ll find corruption! Pedo’s try to get jobs working with kids, bullies become coppers or traffic wardens, adrenaline junkies become stunt men & women and people who like money swindle. Everyday of your life you’re being swindled, by all the big companies, your local council, government, legal system, etc. Have a look yourself, don’t take it from me, every single council, police force, the whole legal system including the ministry of justice, the houses of parliament etc. are all registered trading companies with share holders, which means someone is making money out of every fine that’s paid, the council tax we pay and so we are literally being ripped off by our own government. That’s without all the cash for questions, expenses scandal and all the other dodgy acts of parliament. Have a look for these companies, you can find them on companies house. The trick is to work out what their trading names are. Believe it, wherever there is money there are scams!

  28. Euan says:

Saying united are never victims of poor decisions is bullshi*
