Is it time for Arsene and Arsenal to part?

It has been 7 long years, since we have seen an Arsenal side lift a trophy. For a club as successful as Arsenal, this has been a major disaster. Where does the blame lie? The fans are pointing fingers at the board. But in all honesty, the blame lies at the feet of Arsene Wenger. Arsene has Arsenal Football Club wrapped around his little finger. Anything he says goes.

Cast your mind back to the invincibles season, the balance of the team was perfect. Arsene had a side which was capable of ruling the world for many years to come, as the invincibles was the pinnacle of Arsene’s career. He had the utmost respect and loyalty from the Arsenal fans. He was a genius in Arsenal fans eyes. Arsene played on the fans loyalty to disastrous effect. He decided to get rid of the invincible side and replace them with youngsters. Arsene had asked for 5 years in which you would see his plan come to fruition. 7 years on we can see he has failed miserably. 7 years on the taste of glory amongst Arsenal fans are a distant memory.

It’s clear to see Arsene will persist in proving the doubters wrong. He is trying to create a side which is capable of challenging for the league title. However, you cannot compete for trophies when you sell your best players and replace them with unproven promising youngsters. Selling Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri last summer and not replacing them was the final nail in the coffin for me. You could argue Mikel Arteta was bought to replace Cesc Fabregas. As good as Mikel Arteta is, he is not even half the player Cesc is. Do you remember Arsene’s quotes?

“Imagine the worst situation — we lose Fabregas and Nasri — you cannot convince people you are ambitious after that,” said Wenger.

In the past week we have seen the mental fragility of the current Arsenal squad. Heading out to Milan to take on the Italian giants is no easy feat. However the lack of effort, commitment and overall quality on show that miserable night was the exact opposite of what Arsenal Football Club stands for.  A mentally tough team will bounce back from defeat, like Manchester United do on many occasions. Sunderland was a chance for the Arsenal side to redeem themselves yet it was another lethargic display, so much so that I don’t know which performance was worse, the one at the Stadium of Light or the one at the San Siro.

Over the past 18 months Arsene’s side have broken records for all the wrong reasons. The second leg of the last 16 tie against Barcelona where Arsenal didn’t have a shot on or off target all match, a record in the Champions league. Or the defeat on Wednesday night, the biggest club defeat in 222 European games or last season when Arsenal were four goals up at half time at Newcastle. Arsenal were the first side in Premier league history to give up a four goal lead. At full time, you would expect Arsene to give his side a rollicking, but as Arshavin revealed; Arsene remained silent.

Probably the defeat that hurts the most was the 8-2 at Old Trafford. The biggest club defeat in 100 years. A defeat which forced Arsene to trolley dash on the final day of the transfer window and panic buy something which he stated he would never do.

It’s Groundhog Day once again for Arsenal fans. However, Arsene has come out and said ‘top 4 is a trophy’. Its quotes like these which anger Arsenal fans. Top 4 is not a trophy, if it was we would have a lot of trophies in the cabinet at the Emirates, but we have none of note.

Arsene is a stubborn character; he has way too much control over Arsenal Football Club. His actions are similar to the ones at Monaco where he lost the fans to a similar project in promoting youth. The Monaco fans had enough and Arsene was sacked. Jean Tigana came in and won the league in his first season as Monaco manager.

Arsene should come out and say his project has failed and apologize, and then go out and buy top class proven talent. No money I hear you ask? What about the 41 million pounds from the sales of Adebayor and Toure. Or the 60 million from the sales of Fabregas and Nasri. Arsene’s not prepared to spend? What about these quotes?

“I would spend 40 million on the right player” says Arsene Wenger.

Arsene is the most successful manager in the history of Arsenal Football Club. But the longer he goes without winning a trophy the more the impatience grows amongst the Arsenal fans. We should be moving ‘forward’, but in all honesty we are going backwards.

Emmanuel Petit has come out and said ‘Arsene is at his lowest point as Arsenal boss’. My message to Arsene would be to buck up your ideas and fast or leave this magnificent football club, whilst your reputation remains intact.

Stop using Arsenal Football Club as your plaything and give the Arsenal fans what they deserve, a trophy.
